Here are the 4 dive sites on the North coast of Nusa Penida. We particularly like them because it's a bit like our garden. Indeed our dive center is located on the beach just in front of PED dive site. The advantage of SD, PED, Sental and Buyuk sites is the fact that they are all in continuity, so that during drift dives, it happens to start at one dive site and finish halfway through the next one. The north coast of Nusa Penida is also way better sheltered from the swells compared to the south, which makes this coast ideal in case of bad weather. Dive sites in the north of Nusa Penida often reveal beautiful surprises ...
SD takes its name from the word "Sekola Dasar" which means primary school. The dive site being just in front of the school. It is a dive site that you cannot get enough of as it can be full of surprises. Whether drifting or not, it is just a pleasure to explore all of its diversity.
The SD dive site is suitable for all levels of divers as it offers a beautiful richness of flora and fauna. The plateau part is ideal for discover scuba diving experience as well as for the safety stop. Like all North Nusa Penida dive site, the slope descends rapidly to 40 meters. A wide variety of corals and sponges with lots of colors. SD is also a dive site where you can see large pelagics such as giant Trevally, Tunas, Mola-Mola and sometimes even whale sharks. The plateau has beautiful coral formations that will impress any divers. A small area to the West has less corals and is an ideal place to do the training dives.
PED dive site is located right in front of our dive center. The dive site takes its name from the village of PED. PED dive site is very rich in colors and the drop-off is simply magnificent. Be careful, this dive site is addictive and we understand why! So many good surprises on every dives. We love our "house reef"!
PED dive site is remarkable and is certainly our favorite on Nusa Penida North Coast. The plateau is not very deep and we arrive very quickly on the slope which is a 45 °. PED is a drift dive and the entry point will depend on the strength and direction of the current. Current at PED may change during dive or depending on depth. The current generally follows the coast but sometimes it comes in from the open sea and creates an area of upstream and more dangerously downstream current. This upwelling current create a special area where we like to spend few minutes as it is not unusual to spot Mola Mola and big shark coming from the deep. Schools of yellowback fusiliers attracted by the rich nutrients coming from the bottom are hunted by barracudas, tunas and trevally. Lot of Moorish idol are waiting for the precious Mola Mola, they always give you the hint when Mola Mola approach. Mola Mola are frequent but the cherry on the cake is of course a whale shark or the thresher shark.
PED is therefore a dive site where the deep blue catches the eyes but that's without counting the corals and sponges richness in colors. The edge between the plateau and the slope is full of life with everything a diver could desire, macro, nudibranchs, octopus, turtles ...
Sental dive site is very similar to PED. We love the big coral formations on the edge of the wall. Sental is for big stuff, we always go to Sental with our fingers crossed for a nice surprise in the blue. Color, life everywhere, a delight.
Sental dive site is a real pleasure, in the continuity of SD and Ped, the slope is a bit stiffer but with a better supplied plateau. The drift dive can be a little more "sporty" and the entry point on the plateau will depend on current direction. Beginner will be delighted as the 7 to 18 meter area is very well preserved. Beautiful coral formations offering shelter while drifting making diving fun. However, be careful with the depth, you are quickly drawn to the blue as there are so many schools of fish. As always in the North coast of Nusa Penida, the large pelagics are often seen and even more in Sental. Mola-Mola, tunas, barracudas, thresher sharks, eagle rays are not rare. The current can also play tricks, it is necessary to stay close with your guide, only his experience can anticipate changing currents and guarantee you flawless safety. The plateau is ideal for finishing a dive with all the Macro fauna, octopuses, frog fishes, stone fishes, turtles, triggerfish, mantis shrimp, nudibranchs ...
Buyuk dive site on East of Sental has a different topography from the 3 other sites on North Nusa ¨Penida. The plateau is quite wide and the slope is much less steep at the beginning. A sandier substrate on the plateau makes this dive site a treat for Macro lover.
We dive a little less Buyuk, often it is our entry point to do Sental by strong current towards the West. It is also our end of Sental dive with current pushing us towards the East. The plateau offers a beautiful area for strolling in search of Macro fauna or for discover scuba diving. The slope which accelerates towards 20 meters is similar to other sites on North Nusa Penida coast with once again the possibility of encountering beautiful pelagics like Mola, sharks, tuna... We like to do Buyuk in the morning on our first dive in order to avoid the cohort of tourists who come to do aquatic activities from the newly installed pontoons (banana boat, parasailing, jet-ski ...)
